March 2026 —— Maintaining the chemical stability and color consistency of active ingredients within topical formulations remains a key challenge in high-end cosmetic development. To address this, Boweixin Biotech hosted a specialized scientific symposium titled “Breaking Barriers: Preventing Oxidation and Discoloration of L-(+)-Ergothioneine (CAS 497-30-3) in Multiphase Emulsions” at its Global R&D Center. The event convened academics in colloid chemistry alongside veteran formulation directors from major personal care brands to discuss stabilization techniques for Ergothioneine.
Technical Insight: Boweixin’s Transition-Metal Chelating Strategies
During the technical sessions, Boweixin’s application scientists shared key findings regarding stability:
- The Cause of Discoloration: Analytical testing shows that most discoloration in Ergothioneine emulsions is not caused by exposure to light or heat alone. Rather, trace transition-metals (such as Fe³⁺ or Cu²⁺) catalyze the oxidation of the molecule’s thione tautomer.
- The Chelating Solution: Boweixin demonstrated its molecular-sieve filtration technique, which limits trace metal ions during the purification phase. Our team also showed how to utilize organic acid chelators across typical formulation pH values (pH 4.5 to 7.0), keeping Ergothioneine chemical degradation below 1% under accelerated 50°C heat challenges, even when formulated alongside sensitive actives like Retinol or Vitamin C.
Bridging Academic Research and Commercial Formulations
“Boweixin is committed to providing our customers with premium active ingredients supported by thorough application data,” commented the General Manager of Boweixin Biotech. This symposium highlights Boweixin’s focus on advancing formulation science. We will continue to expand our application research, offering our customers complimentary stability testing and synergistic ingredient compatibility databases to help streamline their product development.
